Why Miami is a Great Place to Study Film & Video

If Florida were the cast of a movie, Miami would play the lead. Florida is one of the nation's most popular states for movie making, and Miami's cultural diversity, stunning scenery, and gorgeous weather make it a frequent choice for film locations. The film and television industry pumps millions of dollars into Miami's economy each year, and the city welcomes moviemakers with its local film offices and many film festivals, including the Miami Short Film Festival and the Miami Jewish Film Festival. Some hit movies filmed in Miami include "Something about Mary" (Matt Dillon), "Donnie Brasco" (Al Pacino), and "True Lies" (Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger). Several organizations in Miami have strong ties to Latino filmmaking, such as the Miami Film Festival's Miami Encuentros.
